Futures trading carries a substantial risk of loss. Read this before you use anything published on this site.

Read this page before you use anything published on smartflowfutures.net. It sets out, in plain terms, the risks involved in the activity this Site discusses and the limits of what this Site is.
Futures Trading Involves a Substantial Risk of Loss
Trading futures contracts carries a substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for every investor. A significant proportion of people who attempt it lose money. You should not trade futures unless you fully understand the mechanics of the contracts you are trading, the margin requirements attached to them, and the amount you stand to lose.
The educational material on this Site does not reduce that risk. Understanding a concept is not the same as being able to apply it profitably under live market conditions.
Leverage Can Produce Losses Greater Than Your Deposit
Futures are leveraged instruments. The margin you post is a performance bond, not the full value of the position you control. A small adverse move in the underlying market can produce a loss that is large relative to your account.
Losses are not limited to the amount you deposited. You can lose more than your initial margin, you can be required to deposit additional funds on short notice, and your positions can be liquidated at a loss without your consent if you fail to meet a margin call. In fast or illiquid markets, protective orders such as stop-loss orders may be filled at prices materially worse than the level you specified, or may not be executable at all.
Risk Only Capital You Can Afford to Lose
Never fund a trading account with money you need for living expenses, housing, healthcare, debt repayment, education, retirement, or an emergency reserve. Do not trade with borrowed funds. Assume, before you place a trade, that the capital committed to it may be lost in full.
Past Performance Does Not Predict Future Results
Any results, examples, chart annotations, case studies, or historical illustrations shown on this Site describe what happened in the past. Past performance is not indicative of future results. Market conditions, liquidity, volatility, participants, and regulation change, and a method that performed well over one period can fail over another.
Hypothetical and Simulated Results Carry Inherent Limitations
Some material on this Site may describe hypothetical, backtested, or simulated outcomes, including examples marked on historical charts and results obtained in a demo or paper-trading environment. Such results have inherent limitations, and the following points should be understood before any weight is placed on them.
- Hypothetical results do not represent actual trading. Because the trades were not executed, the results may under- or over-compensate for the effect of market factors such as slippage, partial fills, and a lack of liquidity at the intended price.
- Simulated programs are generally designed with the benefit of hindsight. The person constructing the example already knows how the market moved, which no live trader does at the moment of decision.
- No representation is made that any account will, or is likely to, achieve profits or losses similar to those shown.
- Simulated trading does not reproduce the financial and psychological pressure of risking real capital, which is a material factor in live results.
The above is a plain-language summary of the concerns that regulators have long expressed about hypothetical performance in the derivatives industry, including in the rules governing the CFTC-regulated sector. It is our own wording and is not an official regulatory text.

Most Retail Traders Lose Money
The statistical record for retail speculators is unfavorable. Across the industry, disclosure data published by regulated brokers consistently shows that a large majority of retail accounts lose money over time, and attrition among new traders is high. Costs, commissions, spreads, financing, and taxes work against the account continuously, while the discipline required to survive drawdowns takes years to develop.
You should approach this activity expecting to be in the losing majority, and structure your risk accordingly. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.
Seek Independent Professional Advice
Before opening a futures account or committing capital, consult a licensed financial professional, and where relevant a qualified tax adviser or attorney, who is able to review your full circumstances. Read the risk disclosure documents your broker is required to provide, and do not proceed until you understand them.
